Federico D’Orazio is a real provocateur. His artwork challenges the norms of society pushing its boundaries. He addresses subjects from the fringes of society including transgender prostitutes, at-risk children and high-security inmates. He has even fought, himself, against professional MMA fighters for an art performance piece. He is never concerned with what is popular but rather what is poignant at the moment or could become so, thus always being in front of the curve.
In 1997 D’Orazio was invited to participate in the Los Angeles Biennial. For the occasion, he created an infomercial for an award-winning book he made that inflates into a raft. He approached different people at Venice Beach asking them to participate in his video. He eventually found “the” perfect California Beach blonde who agreed to help him make what then became the video titled “O.”
