univac - Muzeumm Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, 4.30.16
This was a gallery show and performance put together as a part of “The Benders Circuit” documentary featuring audio-visual performance and circuit bending in the Los Angeles area, produced by Angela Izzo and Eric Zimmerman.
univac performs two of his circuit bent video/audio gadgets: The "Cellular Recombomat" is a circuit bent patch-bay video synthesizer, bent from Critter & Guitari’s cellular automata generator video board, and “DataNoise" is a bent Critter & Guitari Video Scope.
The Recombomat generates tones based on the state of the cellular automata and that sound is fed into DataNoise (which produces a visual waveform) then the circuit bent mayhem begins with optical and human contact control as well as multi-stage glitch-state switches and color/video-sync-drop patching. DataNoise also has its own audio output based on video level frequencies. Each gadget has its own projector to visualize the video output.
This being a gallery show, univac had many gadgets on display (of which you can see detailed photos and descriptions at techdweeb.com). Near the end of the performance univac brought a couple down to play: "TinyFlaccid TubbyBox: LAla" and "3 Loud Objects”.
